COORDINATING COMMITTEE NEW MEMBERS
Bob Smith (Brandywine Peace Community) has agreed to join the
Coodinating Committee and took part in this Conference Call. Cathy
Leary has agreed to join the Coordinating Committee, but was not able
to be on this Conference Call.
INVITATIONS TO JOIN THE COORDINATING COMMITTEE
Bob Moore left a message for John Braxton inviting him to join,
but has not heard back yet. Bob will follow up. Ken Heard has invited
both Lindsey Patterson (Steelworkers Union) and Anche Butler
(Philadelphia Unemployment Project) and they said yes, but did not
join us on the Conference Call. Ken will follow up. Nina will follow
up with Robin Stelle.
PREPARING FOR THE MAY 9TH EVENT
What's Going On In Congress:
Bob Moore invited Congresswomen Barbara Lee, Lynn Woolsey, and
Maxine Waters (all members of the Progressive Congressional Caucus) to
speak at the event. He sent them a fax and made follow-up calls. It
is not very likely that they will be able to come. If one or more of
them come, we need a person who can introduce them. If they do not
come, we need this same person (someone knowledgable about what is
happening in Congress) to present this information to the gathering.
Bob will ask Carol Tiger Allen to present (or introduce). If she
can not or does not wish to do this, he will ask Irene (last name?)
next.
We AGREED to change the order of the day slightly so that we have
lunch from Noon to 12:30 p.m. and the What's Going on in Congress
session from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Sue will contact David Gibson about
the change.
Lunch and Program Costs:
Sue anticipates needing $150 for hoagies and apples. The church
has water pitchers so we can provide water. Nina will supply paper
plates, cups, and towels, and trash bags. Voices of a Different Dream
will charge us $75. Delco Alliance for Environmental Justice will
charge us $75.
We AGREED to tap the money we have in our operating fund for these
costs. Sue and Carol will let Bob know how to make out and where to
send the checks. Sue will send Bob an invoice for her costs in buying
the hoagies and apples.
We AGREED to have a collection for the costs of the lunch and
program at the end of the Music and Poetry section right before we
break to go into workshops. Bob Moore will make the plea for donations.
Program:
We like the program as outlined. One workshop coordinator will
bring a CD Video and needs a projector. Rich Gardner will provide the
lap top and DVD projector and will help set it up.
Publicity:
Once the flyer is finalized, we will send it out as an attachment
and also paste it into the body of the email with a link to the
website. Rich will place the final flyer onto the web site. We will
each send it out as widely as possible to our email lists.
Bob Moore will draft a press release and send it out to his
contacts (mostly in Jersey) and Sue will draft a press release, send it
to Bob Moore for suggested corrections or changes, and ask Bob Smith to
send it to the contacts he has.
Nina will negotiate about the cost of printing 250 flyers/posters
with the union printer she knows on Baltimore Ave. She will ask them
to send the (tax-exempt) bill to Bob Moore c/o the Peace Action
Educational Fund at the CFPA address in Princeton. She will pick up
the flyers/posters and bring them to her house. People who want
flyers/posters can arrange with Nina for a pick-up time or give Nina an
address for her to mail them.
Other Items:
Ken will send us information about the Coalition to Save the
(Philadelphia) City Services. Bob Smith will send us information about
the Green Street Meeting event where Peter Lems will be speaking.
Next Meeting:
We AGREED not to hold another Conference Call, but to wait for the
face-to-face UFPJ-DVN Meeting on Sunday, June 7, from 3 to 4 p.m., at
Tabernacle Church, 37th and Chestnut Street.
